SPAR is a water-soluble anionic polyelectrolyte developed to control fluid loss in drilling muds.
Advantages
Effective up to 350°F.
Will build a filter cake along the well bore to prevent fluid loss.
Stabilizes flow properties in low solids, non-dispersed systems.
Reduces gel strengths and yield point with little effect on plastic viscosity.
Performs in highly dispersed systems.
Typical Properties
Appearance
White to light yellow flakes
Solubility
Readily soluble in water
Ionic Character
70% Anionic
PH
9.5 (as a 10% solution)
Moisture
7-9% (wt.)
Microbiology
Non-fermentable
Dosage Range
0.25 to 0.75 lb/bbl
Application
SPAR forms a wall
cake by forming a matrix of polymer and clay particles that agglomerate
along the well bore. The formation of this network is due to the absorption
of the polymer onto the surface of the clay platelets.
SPAR can be used in most
water-based systems, however, the best results have been obtained in fresh
water systems. Optimum performance will occur when soluble magnesium and
calcium levels are below 500ppm. SPAR can be used in extended, low solids
and weighted bentonite muds.
Handling/Storage
SPAR exhibits a low order of toxicity. Please see the SPAR Material Safety Data Sheet for details. When handling any chemical, precautions should be taken to avoid ingestion, inhalation or contact with skin or eyes. Spills of this product can be slippery when exposed to water.
Packaging
Available in multi-wall moisture proof 50 lb. bags.
