The only proper method
to determine the optimum treatment level for any system is by pilot
testing. Solids content, mud density and contamination level all
influence the proper treatment level. In most applications (little
or no mud contamination, average solids content, mud density of
less than 10 lbs/gal), only 0.1 to 0.2 pounds per barrel of DX-Thin
is required. For optimum performance, it is highly recommended that
the drill solids content be kept as low as is practical. In most
situations, DX-Thin will tolerate over 15,000 ppm of chloride contamination
and 500 ppm of total hardness contamination without having to increase
treatment levels. In weighted muds (over 12 lb/gal), more DX-Thin
will be required. Again, testing will be required to determine the
optimum dosage level.
